Westbrook is a member of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Lakers (NBA). He is a nine-time NBA All-Star, a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, and the 2016–17 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP).

In addition, he has made the All-NBA Team nine times, has twice led the league in scoring (in 2014–15 and 2016–17), and has twice been named MVP of the NBA All-Star Game (in 2015 and 2016).

Westbrook joined Oscar Robertson in 1962 as the only other players in NBA history to average a triple-double for an entire season in 2017, the year he earned the league MVP award.

With 42 triple-doubles, he also set a record for a season. The following two seasons, he averaged a triple-double, led the league in assists, and made history by becoming the first player to ever lead the league in both points and assists in the same season.

For the fourth time in five seasons, Westbrook averaged a triple-double in 2020–21, surpassing Robertson for the most triple-doubles in an NBA career.

Westbrook represented the UCLA Bruins in collegiate basketball and was named to the Pac-10 third team all-conference team. The Seattle SuperSonics selected him with the fourth overall choice in the 2008 NBA Draft; they later moved to Oklahoma City the following week.

The 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Olympics both saw Westbrook earn gold medals while playing for the American national team.
