The City of Davenport reached a tentative agreement Wednesday night with the Humane Society of Scott County (HSSC,) which currently provides animal control services for the city.
The HSSC gets around $400,000 a year from Davenport for its services. But shelter managers say that’s not enough.

The Humane Society wants more than $1 million in a new contract. That prompted the city to discuss creating its own department to save money.
Animal control is usually tasked with rescuing animals in distress, reuniting lost pets with their owners and responding to nuisance complaints.
Members of the Davenport City Council say more time is needed to discuss the agreement between both parties, and residents hope to hear more details soon.
Right now Our Quad Cities News does not yet know the exact agreement details, such as how long it will last or costs involved.
